The school year has now come to a close and it is now time for you to reflect on the academic year. Now is a time for closure, saying goodbye’s to both pupils and colleagues and a time to congratulate yourself and others for the hard work and goals that have been achieved!
The year will have taken you on a journey filled with highs and lows, at your lowest you have felt the stress and strain that has affected you in a whole manner of ways both personally and professionally. However it is easy for us to forget the great things that you and your team have achieved this year!
Ask yourselves:
1. What have been your key achievements for this academic year?
2. How will you celebrate & reward yourself for what has been achieved this year?
3. Who else needs to be rewarded and how will you show that you have valued their contribution?
It is important to recognise and celebrate what has been achieved; however it is also crucial that at this stage in the year that you take time out to reflect on what may not have gone so well. You need to look at the reasons why things may have gone wrong, what mistakes were made and what can be learnt from them. Learning to accept mistakes and channel what has been learnt from them into positive changes is something that will help you to begin the next academic year with a positive and focused mindset.
For many of you it will be a time to say goodbye to your colleagues and pupils as it is time to move on to pastures new! Taking with you the positive learning and experiences you have achieved and beginning a new chapter full of exciting new challenges.
Tired and exhausted at the end of what will have been a very busy summer term, it can be all too easy to forget the many good things that will have happened, because of YOUR leadership this year!
So take time this summer to reflect, refocus and re-energise, so that when you begin the new school year in September your batteries will be fully charged and you will be ready to face whatever new challenges may come your way!
